'Zim indigenisation deadline stands'

'Zim indigenisation deadline stands'
Published: 04 November 2013
The government says the January 2014 deadline for firms operating in the reserved sectors of the economy stands with companies called upon to comply with the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act.

Speaking to reporters in Harare, the Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Development, Francis Nhema, said he expects the firms to comply with the indigenisation and empowerment law.

"Nothing has changed on the deadline and firms are called upon to comply with the law to ensure there is progress.

"Those that want waivers have to submit their proposals to government for consideration," he said.

The indigenisation and economic empowerment programme has transformed the lives of some communities in various parts of the country through community share ownership trusts.

In areas such as Shurugwi and Zvishavane, schools and clinics as well as roads have been constructed.
