The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) on Tuesday presented to Cabinet a report of its findings on salaries for executives of parastatals, a senior official has said.

Cabinet last year directed the OPC to look into governance issues and remuneration of executives in the public sector.

Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo said Cabinet had on Tuesday deliberated on the report and referred it to the committee on state enterprises and parastatals chaired by Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa for review.

"After the review, the report is expected to be presented to Cabinet next week for a Government decision on the immediate and long term measures and processes to redress the state of malaise that has given rise to widespread media reports about corrupt salaries in most state enterprises, parastatals and local authorities," Minister Moyo said in a statement.

He said Government was "unreservedly committed to leaving no stone unturned in addressing the malaise in the public enterprises" to ensure the institutions contribute to economic growth.

Government enterprises have in recent weeks come under the spotlight following revelations of corruption as well as excessive salaries and allowances for top executives at the institutions.

Parastatals are blamed for pulling down the economy's performance due to non-performance and perennial reliance on bailout packages.
