Zanu-PF youths target Zhuwao farm

ZANU-PF youths have vowed to grab the farm of exiled Generation 40 (G40) kingpin Patrick Zhuwao and redistribute it among themselves. This comes after the self-exiled former Cabinet minister claimed that he won't return to Zimbabwe "for at least 15 to 20 years" as his security and safety is not guaranteed under President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration.

Zhuwao has not set foot in Zimbabwe since No- vember 2017, spurning an invitation by Mnangagwa to come back home after the death of his uncle, former president Robert Mugabe, last month.

"He is one of the absentee farmers and his farm must immediately be allocated to those who can put the land to productive use," Zanu-PF youth league secretary Tendai Chirau said.

Chirau said youths are targeting all farms that are lying idle, not only Zhuwao's property.

"We are pushing to enforce the ruling party reso- lutions on land redistribution. The first priority should be given to the youths. Multiple farm ownership is a problem and the bulk of the farms are lying idle yet we have youths who can turn these into productive use.

"We are convinced that his family (Zhuwao) is not doing enough on the land; it is not being utilised to its full capacity as expected," Chirau said.

Chirau said taking underutilised farms was not just politicking or a purge of G40 members but meant to fight hunger in the country by increasing productivity.
