Zimbabwe mobile operators slammed over poor service delivery

Zanu-PF Chief Whip and Gutu South legislator Pupurai Togarepi has accused Zimbabwe's mobile network providers of ripping off consumers through poor service delivery and unreliable connectivity.

Raising a point of national interest in Parliament on Thursday, Togarepi urged the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) and the ICT ministry to protect the public from being short-changed by service providers.

"You try to phone 10 times, your call doesn't go through, yet your money is taken. There is no refund - this is a rip-off," Togarepi said, adding that network problems had persisted for over a year.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda directed the ICT Portfolio Committee to launch an inquiry into the issue.

Zimbabwe's three GSM operators - Econet, NetOne, and Telecel - have come under fire amid nationwide complaints of dropped calls, poor internet connectivity, and lack of transparency over charges.
