ZESA to replace old prepaid electricity meters

ZESA has announced plans to phase out old prepaid electricity meters across the country as part of its initiative to improve efficiency and provide consumers with more accurate information on their energy usage.

In a notice to residents of Norton, the utility explained that the replacement process will be carried out by authorised technicians. The installation is expected to take approximately 15 minutes, during which a brief interruption of electricity supply may occur. Customers will also receive full guidance on how to operate the new meters.

The power company highlighted that the move comes as the existing prepaid meters have reached the end of their operational lifespan. ZESA emphasised that the new devices will deliver more precise and detailed information about electricity consumption, helping customers better manage usage and potentially reduce costs.

Residents have been urged to ensure that technicians can access the meter locations and to be available during scheduled installation times. ZESA also encouraged customers with questions or feedback to reach out via its customer service lines or email, noting that input from users would help refine the rollout process.

The upgrade is part of ZESA's broader strategy to modernise its infrastructure and enhance service delivery, signalling a step towards more efficient and user-friendly electricity management for consumers nationwide.
