President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that drug and substance abuse will not be tolerated within Zimbabwe's uniformed forces, emphasizing the need for discipline and moral integrity across the security sector.

The announcement was made during the joint Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) pass-out parade for courses 156 and 157 at Ntabazinduna Training Depot in Matabeleland North Province on Saturday.

President Mnangagwa, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, warned that drugs pose a direct threat to the moral fabric, stability, and productivity of the nation. He called on officers, young people, and communities to resist and reject drug abuse in all forms.

"Let me make it abundantly clear that there is no room within our Security Services for those who indulge in or promote such destructive behaviour. The nation looks up to you to preserve peace, stability and public safety," he said.

Addressing the newly graduated correctional officers, the President reminded them of the weight and dignity of the profession. He urged them to serve the nation with integrity, fairness, humility, and passion, upholding justice and safeguarding human dignity.

"Your service must always reflect the spirit of Ubuntu/Unhu and the values of unity, peace, and patriotism which define us as Zimbabweans," President Mnangagwa said.

He also highlighted government plans to establish community correctional centres that will provide non-custodial alternatives for selected offenders, promoting rehabilitation and reducing inmate congestion.

"This December, the Government is advancing the establishment of community correctional centres which provide non-custodial alternatives for selected inmates. These centres will promote rehabilitation within communities while easing congestion in our correctional facilities," he said.

The President commended the ZPCS for strengthening regional cooperation through its staff college, which trains officers from across Southern Africa, and announced that Zimbabwe will host the inaugural Zimbabwe Parole System Conference next month, with participation from regional partners.

President Mnangagwa's address underscores his administration's commitment to maintaining discipline within security forces, advancing rehabilitation programs, and fostering regional collaboration in corrections.
