Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has rewarded newly crowned 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions, Scottland FC, with a massive US$250,000 cash gift following their historic title triumph.
The gesture comes just a day after Scottland FC secured the championship in emphatic fashion, thrashing Kwekwe United 5–1 to seal the title with two matches to spare.
In a statement posted online, Chivhayo congratulated the club for its remarkable achievement, describing it as a milestone in Zimbabwean football.
"In recognition of this massive history-breaking achievement, and for your exemplary leadership and passion for the game of football, I invite the team captain and the team manager to come and see me personally on Saturday to collect USD250,000 as a small token of my appreciation and to share it with the entire team, the coach and the technical staff," Chivhayo wrote.
Scottland FC, affectionately known as Mabviravira, made history by becoming only the second club in Premier Soccer League history - after Black Rhinos in 1984 - to win the league title in its debut season.
With the championship already secured, the team's remaining fixtures against Green Fuel and Tel One will serve as formalities. Their official coronation will take place at Ascot Stadium on the final matchday when they face Tel One.
The cash gift from Chivhayo has sparked widespread reaction among football fans, many praising his generosity while others questioned the sustainability of such grand gestures in the local game. Nonetheless, the reward adds another layer of celebration to what has been a dream debut season for Scottland FC.
