Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made fresh headlines after donating 10 brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser ICU ambulances, each valued at US$90,000, to Government General Hospitals in Zimbabwe's provincial capitals.
Chivayo said the donation, made in honour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's 82nd birthday, would strengthen the country's health delivery system while celebrating what he described as the President's "visionary leadership."
At the same time, Chivayo has gifted 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series VXR vehicles, worth about US$190,000 each, to all 10 Zanu-PF Provincial Chairpersons. He also handed each of them US$100,000 in cash - a combined US$1 million - which he said should be used for grassroots development and empowerment initiatives across provinces.
While Chivayo portrays the donations as a commitment to both healthcare and provincial development, critics have questioned the source of his vast wealth and the political undertones of his high-profile generosity.
