Congestion eases at Beitbridge

Congestion that build up at Beitbridge Border Post over the weekend has eased following the completion of the installation of a new clearance customs processing system called Interfront Customs Border Solution (iCBS) by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

The installation of the system, which started Friday and was completed yesterday, had resulted in delays at the border post on Saturday and Sunday but the situation had normalised today.

The new system will enable SARS to centralise the clearing of all import, export and cross-border declarations using a single processing system that incorporates advanced technology.

Last week the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority issued a statement warning that the installation of the new system could result in some challenges at Beitbridge border post.

"The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority hereby advises members of the public that the SARS is introducing a new customs clearance processing system known as Interfront Customs Border Solution."

As may be expected with the implementation of new systems, unforeseen challenges may be experienced in the process, so SARS has advised that in terms of system downtime over the weekend.

"Contingency plans have been set up to ensure that emergency declarations will still be processed and cargo enabled to move through the borders timeously," said Zimra.

Meanwhile, Zimra recently deployed point-of-sale machines at Beitbridge Border Post in order to increase security and convenience to its valued clients.

The point-of-sale machines accept both ZIMSWITCH and international cards such as VISA and MasterCard, which makes it more convenient for the transacting public.
