AirZim still riddled with financial challenges
Published: 10 June 2013
Air Zimbabwe Acting Chief Executive Officer Innocent Mavhunga says his company is still riddled with financial challenges and will continue staggering its workers’ salaries.

The national airline, which is on the recovery path but is still affected by financial challenges, has for long been struggling to pay its workers.

The workers have over the past two years gone on strike on several occasions, but have only received part payments as the airline cannot pay their full salaries.

Speaking at a media briefing in Harare, Mr Mavhunga confirmed that the national airline is still part paying its employees as they have not received the funds which they were promised by treasury.

Last year, Air Zimbabwe paid its workers half salaries for several months, a development that saw arrears ballooning beyond its capacity to pay.

Meanwhile, the airline’s debt has risen from US$140 million to US$188 million during the last 12 months.
