Volume of bank transactions decline
Published: 26 August 2013
According to the June RBZ monthly report the volumes of bank transactions declined.

The value of transactions processed through the RTGS system in June 2013 decreased by 9.48% to $3.54 billion, from $3.92 billion in May 2013. On the other hand, the volume of transactions registered a decline of 14%, from $215 199 to $185 802 during the same period.

On the Card Systems, the total value of card based transactions fell by 10.28%, from US$332.60 million in May to US$298.40 million in June 2013.

For the Mobile and Internet Based Transactions, the value of mobile and internet based transactions also declined by 26.73%. The decline in these transactions in this period may have been due to economic agents taking the "wait and see" approach on the elections and their results.

Now that the elections are over the economic climate and direction is now predictable and now economic agents may make informed decisions as the political direction is no longer uncertain.
