THE tourism sector has applauded Air Zimbabwe for improving connectivity and contributing to an upsurge in tourist arrivals in the country especially in the resort town of Victoria Falls.

The national airline resumed flights between Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls last year as well as Harare and Johannesburg, South Africa this year - a move that has been attributed to an increase in tourists visiting the country.

Zimbabwe Council for Tourism (ZCT) president Mr Francis Ngwenya said because of minimum disruption of flights by Air Zimbabwe, international travel agents were now confident of packaging the country to tourists.

"It is very important for tourists to know that they can fly in and out of a destination at a specific time, so access is key and I think Air Zimbabwe has played a critical role in the growth of arrivals but more importantly it has set a platform and a standard going forward," said Mr Ngwenya.

He said Air Zimbabwe should introduce flights to smaller destinations like Kariba and Hwange National Park.
