The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development says it has received the long awaited Air Zimbabwe report from the BCA Forensic Auditors' firm.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister, Dr Obert Mpofu, who was handed over the audit report by the representatives of the auditing firm and Air Zimbabwe board members, said the document shows that there are a lot of corporate governance issues which need to be addressed at the entity.

Dr Mpofu said the ministry has since requested the auditors to extend the auditing period of the flag carrier’s accounts to 31st of December 2013 as there are indications of more irregularities which transpired during the period March 2013 to December 2013.

Commenting on the audit report which covers the period 2009 to the 31st of March 2013, Dr Mpofu said action on those found wanting will be taken after a thorough evaluation of the audit report.

The audit report comes at a time a number of state-owned enterprises have been exposed of corrupt activities.

There are reports that management at the parastatal fleeced the struggling national airline of about $11 million through an insurance scam carried out between 2009 and 2013 amid fears that there were more corrupt activities carried out by the executive.

The national flag carrier which has struggled to operate viably has been one of the underperforming state-owned enterprises.
