Meikles Limited says depressed consumer demand in the country has hit its departmental retail stores.
Group chairman John Moxon said trading in their supermarkets, particularly in groceries, has been subdued in the first 9 months of their financial year.
TM Supermarkets' turnover was 1% above that of the comparative period in 2012.
Moxon noted that sales and operating margins though comparable to historical levels are under pressure due to lack of spending power by consumers but have benefited from the growth in the service areas.
The hotel mogul said the exciting new long pricing, fast moving consumer goods retail offering under Meikles Mega Market has been well received by the consumers.
