Small scale gold miners produce 4.2 tonnes in Q1

Small scale gold miners have produced 4,2 tonnes of the yellow metal in the first quarter of this year, giving a positive projection that their target of 35 tonnes can be realised.

Small scale gold miners who are in the process of transforming their operations from the hammer and chisel style to mechanised establishments with on-site milling processes are expecting improvements in gold deliveries this year.

Zimbabwe Miners Federation First President, Mr Ishmael Kaguru said they continue to work with the government in mopping up all the gold produced in the country to ensure that it goes to Fidelity Printers and Refiners, the sole buyer of the yellow metal.

With indications that big miners have produced just 3 tonnes of gold in the first quarter, retooling of small scale miners is thus of immediate attention as Zimbabwe is eager to get re-admission into the London Bullion Market, the premier gold market in the world.
