Zimbabwe gold production up
Published: 27 June 2018
Zimbabwe's gold production is on an upward trend with 2.2 tonnes coming from small-scale miners whilst 1.2 tonnes coming from large-scale miners to give a total output of 3.4 tonnes for the month of May.

A mining expert Mr Thomas Gono says the government's initiative through the RBZ gold facility to equip and formalise artisanal miners has been hailed as a driving factor that has spurred gold output in the short term.

Mr Gono added that coordinated and systematic mining should continue to be implemented such that gold output is increased by both the small scale and large scale miners

Gold is among the top earners of foreign currency in Zimbabwe so the high output of the precious metal should be sustained to realise the economic benefits associated with such output.
