AfrAsia Bank, the Mauritius-based bank with a growing presence in South Africa and Zimbabwe, has been recognised as the 'Best Bank in Southern Africa 2013' at the annual African Banker Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco.

The award was presented to Thierry Vallet, General Manager and Executive Director of AfrAsia Private Banking.

The awards presentation was part of annual African Development Bank meetings.

AfrAsia Bank CEO James Benoit commented: "This award confirms the bank's successful strategy on the ground as we leverage our global capabilities to bring excellence in the advice and financial solutions we provide. We have recognised the need for an active advisory technique in investment and our aim is to exceed the expectations of our clients and meet their needs with tailored investment solutions through a timely process in all transparency."

AfrAsia is the first banking institution from Mauritius to win the title of best bank in Southern Africa.

The independent judging panel for the African Banker Awards said the accolade was bestowed in recognition of AfrAsia's consistent performance, the quality of its products and services, its leadership status and its contribution to the growth and development of the financial services sector in the region.

Earlier this year, AfrAsia won 'Best Local Private Bank' honours at the Euromoney awards.
