Caledonia Mining Corporation's Gwanda based gold mining concern, Blanket Mine has increased production for the second quarter of 2013 by more than 10 percent according to the latest production figures.

The gold mining firm, which recently complied with the indigenisation regulations, says gold production continues to surge following major investment in the firm's operations.

According to the latest production figures released by the gold mining firm, a total of 11 592 ounces of the yellow metal were produced during the second quarter, representing a 10.7 percent increase from the first quarter.

Cumulative gold production for Blanket Mine has risen to 22 064 ounces, representing a 6.5 percent increase from the gold production during the first half of 2012.

The country is optimistic of surpassing the 15 tonnes target of gold production this year after narrowly missing it in 2012.
