More than 36 Indian investors have expressed an interest in investing in the country's tourism industry, an incentives analyst has said.

According to the analyst Mr Glen Byrom, who was part of a delegation that was sent out by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to scout for foreign investors in various source markets, there was a lot of interest in the Indian market, which was very optimistic on the current economic and political environment in Zimbabwe.

"A week ago I was in Mumbai for the Incentive business travel and incentives expo and the market is very much enthusiastic about expanding into Zimbabwe.

"We wanted to evaluate the Indian market on behalf of the nation and almost 36 investors expressed immense interest after they were intrigued by the presentations that we made about the country," he said.

He also said the Indian market was focusing much on Asia in the past but after seeing potential in the African market they are also considering this market.

Mr Byrom could not reveal the identity of the investors saying the development was still in its infancy but negotiations were still ongoing.

National Convention Bureau managing director Mrs Tesa Chikaponya also urged the government to make sure the idea of MICE tourism is brought to Zimbabwe and should be fully implemented.
