Zim to oversee RETOSA restructuring
Published: 13 December 2013
A committee of made up of tourism ministers from, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Malawi were named to oversee the restructure transition of the Regional Tourism Organisation for Southern Africa (RETOSA).

The team is expected to report back to the SADC tourism ministers at a meeting by February 2014.

The team was created following a closed door by tourism ministers from the SADC Block who had gathered in Maputo, Mozambique two weeks ago to discuss the restructuring of RETOSA, the tourism body of the Southern Africa region.

Sources close to the meeting say, it was Zambian Tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo, who was the chair for the closed door meeting by the SADC tourism ministers.

The sources also say that schools of thought dominated debate over the restructuring of RETOSA, with some countries calling for the disbandment of the tourism organisation and placing the responsibility of the region's tourism under the SADC Secretariat, while some countries are opposed to the idea.

Zimbabwe is the current chair of the organisation, and apparently is opposed to the idea of disbanding RETOSA, along with some other member states.
