Zimbabwean tourism industry players attending the on-going Africa Travel Indaba in Durban, South Africa are optimistic of a better future following positive signs pointing to a better performance.

The players in the hospitality and leisure sub sectors have began carrying out major expansion and renovation projects on their facilities following an unprecedented surge in bookings and reservations.

Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) realised a growth of 20 percent in hotel room bookings during the first quarter of the new dispensation and has since began expansion projects on a number of its establishments.

In the same vein, Victoria Falls based Ilala Lodge also reported that its facility, which was undergoing expansion, is fully booked ahead of its official opening in mid-June.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) boss, Mr Karikoga Kaseke believes the country's hotel sector is soon to be overwhelmed by demand for accommodation by foreign tourists.

Mr Tichaona Tandi of Wild Horizons heralded the new political order for the good fortunes befalling the tourism industry.
